Air travel can be scary from first time fliers, whether they walk on two legs or four! Not only is it safe for dogs to travel this way, but it's one of the fastest and most reliable ways to get your puppy home. While not all planes are equipped to safely transport pets and other animals, those that are have a special compartment under the plane. Different from cargo, this compartment is pressurized and temperature-controlled for comfort.
Most PuppySpot puppies travel to their forever homes by plane. We understand air travel can be scary for first time fliers, whether they walk on two legs or four! Not only is it safe for dogs to travel this way, but it's one of the fastest and most reliable ways to get your puppy home.
While not all planes are equipped to safely transport pets and other animals, those that are have a special compartment under the plane. Not to be confused with cargo, this compartment is pressurized and temperature-controlled for comfort.
Puppies will have water available (sometimes frozen to avoid spilling), but generally aren't fed during their trip. By 8+ weeks-old, most puppies are able to go 8 or more hours between meals without any issue.
We'll confirm your puppy's travel plans a couple of days before his or her scheduled flight. This may feel like short notice, but we do this to make sure your puppy is healthy before arriving home to you by seeing a licensed veterinarian a few days prior.
Just like human air travel, puppies' planes can be delayed or arrive early. To avoid long waits, we recommend calling the airline ahead of time to make sure your pup's plane is on schedule.
PuppySpot charges a $299 flat-rate fee for all puppies traveling home by pet-friendly air programs. This fee covers your puppy's health certificate required by both us and the airlines to show your puppy is healthy, your puppy's FAA-approved travel crate and the cost of their flight.
PuppySpot will make sure your puppy arrives safe, healthy and as quickly as possible.
Some puppies, like "Snub-Nosed" breeds, have special travel requirements. Not sure if your pup will need special accommodations? Check his or her profile page for our special travel icon, or ask your Puppy Concierge. Once you've selected your puppy, our dedicated Travel team will work with both you and your puppy's breeder to schedule the best accommodations for your puppy's needs.
A puppy nanny is a human companion who accompanies your puppy in the cabin of the plane and will personally greet you at your airport to deliver your puppy by hand.
If both you and your puppy's breeder live close enough, we'll help find a time and place for you to pick up your puppy. This may or may not include a travel carrier and you will only be charged for the cost of the breeder's mileage, puppy's health certificate and travel carrier, if provided.
If you and your puppy's breeder live too far away to meet up, we may be able to have your pup driven to your home. As always, your puppy's comfort and well-being is our number one concern, so if distance and weather permits, we will work with a trusted partner to get your puppy home.
